The Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum is a popular destination for those seeking to learn more about America’s military history from all branches. Opened in 1982, the museum currently sees more than 10 million visitors; built around one of the primary naval vessels, the USS Intrepid was commissioned in the year 1943, serving in both World War II and Vietnam, as well as surveying the seas during the Cold War.

As one of America’s leading educational, cultural, and historical institutions, the museum features such interactive events and activities, such as historical recreations of Kamikaze: Day of Darkness, Day of Light, as well as cockpit simulators, a virtual flight zone, and a tour of a submarine.

The museum itself is sectioned into several different areas, such as the Hangar Deck, the Flight Deck, the Growler Submarine, and the Concorde. The Exploreum Hall features many other interactive and fun activities for kids of all ages, giving visitors the change to learn more about the Intrepid as a military vessel, as well as the crew and members who served aboard during its initial run.

The primary goal for the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum is to educate the public, while promoting awareness and understanding for those who have served and are currently serving within the United States military. To do this, many events are provided by the Intrepid, including that of Fleet Week, an annual celebration which honors current and previous members of the US military and is open to the public.
